Nice design, I like the stripes and how you matched them up.  I think the gown would have been a bit better if you had sewn most of the back closed.  I would have liked the bottom of the skirt better with a small slit in the back to give the appearance that the model could easily walk in the gown.  Overall nice job.

The ombre affect is very pretty and clearly was a lot of work.  The designer did a very nice job with lining and finishing the dress.  I do think the fastenings in the back of the dress are a bit problematic, especially at the bottom where there is pulling.  The garment doesn’t hang particularly well and is unflattering in the side view, looking a little bit like the doll is wrapped in bandages.  I also question the use of the bows on the back of the bodice.  They seem like an afterthought and don’t particularly complement the dress.

I like your design idea.  There were construction issues where your velvet met your sheer fabric. It is a pretty gown with a modern edge, but the silhouette is a bit predictable.  You need to work on your finishing.  I like that you keep making your accessories.  I understand that you can’t turn your sleeves due to the spikes.

I applaud the designer’s attempt to make a bodice with sheer cutouts.  This is not easy to do, but in the end I don’t believe it is very successful.  I don’t love the spike detail on the sleeves of the dress.  They strike a rather discordant note with the sheerness of the chiffon.  The stretch velvet looks very heavy and bumpy and does not hug the doll’s figure as it should.  I don’t find the garment flattering.  In the end, it is a mermaid silhouette, not the most creative dress shape.

A classic dress shape, but therefore rather outdated and heavy, especially with the overskirts.  The beaded fabric is quite stiff in this scale and the massive overskirts, ruching and draping add to the feeling of weight.  The overall affect is matronly.  It is fairly well constructed, though the chiffon is left raw on the sash.

I think there are proportion issues with your dress.  The drop waist of the gown makes the bodice and skirt look to be about the same size which makes the doll appear to have very short legs.  You doll poses are also very distracting. With the way her arms are posed it makes her look like a toddler learning to walk. Your construction was clean and well finished, but it looked like a bit of a fit issue in the photo of the back of your gown. Overall it appears a bit juvenile. It felt more “Toddlers & Tiara’s” than red carpet.

A pretty basic silhouette and one that is not especially fashion forward, particularly for a young model.    The dropped waist and full skirt gives the model a dumpy silhouette.  Gold lame is a really hard fabric to pull off and a full skirted style such as this doesn’t use the fabric to its advantage.  It lies unevenly and there is puckering.  The trim detail is far too large for doll clothing.   The overall affect is pretty dowdy.  I am afraid that this young actress would be put on the “worst dressed” list for this red carpet look.

Your gown is pretty.  There is not much draping for your experiment in draping. There are either some fit issues with the bodice or construction issues? It is too large a proportion for the dolls body. I think the ruching could be a bit smaller and tighter and that would help on the bodice. Your accessories are nice.  The gown is very simple and could be finished better.

I appreciate the designer’s creativity.  The dress is simple and striking.  The styling is good; the model suits the dress and the accessories all work well.  That being said, I find the draping of the top rather heavy and bulky and the half exposed midriff is awkward.

Your gown is pretty, but feels a bit overworked.  There are too many elements on the gown competing for attention.  I don’t see that hat being worn on a red carpet. The accessories push the gown towards costume. Your construction is nice, but many of the feathers are too large for the scale. Your gown would have benefited with some editing.

I think I understand the intentions of the designer to create something opulent and old Hollywood, but this does not read as a modern dress in any way.  I could see Helena Bonham Carter wearing this dress to a red carpet event and being crucified by the fashion police.  It is very Victorian and over embellished.  The feathers put the whole design over the top.  I think the ensemble needs to be edited.

This look is clearly bridal, and perhaps this is the intention of the designer.  The embroidered tulle is very pretty and ethereal, but I am not sure that I like the fullness just under the bust, tying in the back. It is like a bridal veil being used as an apron.

This is a pretty, feminine dress in a lovely color.  What bothers me, however, is the low back.  This is a matter of proportion.  Just a bit more coverage on the lower back and sides of the dress and this would be a lovely, appropriate gown.  As it is now, I think most viewers would be worrying too much about a wardrobe malfunction to appreciate how lovely many of the details are.

When I started the judging process your photos were still not submitted.  We all have deadlines to meet and you did not meet the submission deadline. I would have not accepted your submission for this challenge, but you were given another chance.  I did however deduct one point from each category for your tardiness.  Next challenge I suggest you submit your photos on time.  Your gown is nice, but I think there is a bit too much going on with all the fabric weaving and triangles; and you did not need the trailing accent at the back of the waist.  It is nice that you made so many pieces, but you were only asked to make a gown, so that is what I judged. Your construction is very good, I feel you would benefit from some editing, you don’t have to put every idea into every fashion.

There are several elements that I like about this ensemble.  The body suit is really cute and reminds me of a vintage swimsuit.  I don’t love the gold braided trim.  I like the slim skirted cocktail look the best of the three.  The deconstructed petal affect (very reminiscent of Leanne Marshall, winner of season 5 of Project Runway) is really heavy in looks one and two.  It is a really dramatic look, however, and I think it meets the challenge.

You made a very pretty gown. Your photographs submitted for judging should have been better lit, those are not in the photography challenge and it is hard to judge what you can’t see. Your gown has a modern simplicity and a vintage silhouette which works well.  It isn’t the most original or fresh idea for a gown, but it is pretty. Your construction has some issues, the edges are not finished, and there appears to be some fit issues under the arm the way the seams twist. The gown is lovely, but feels so dated.  The peplum, the mermaid skirt, and the shrug all add to a very tired silhouette that feels very Victorian. Beautifully made, but needs editing.  The overuse of trims and beads and embellishments results in a look that is too overwhelming in doll scale.  The flowered shrug, the peplum and the mermaid skirt are all too much.  At least one element would need to go.  I like many of the pieces in isolation.

Clearly a lot of hard work went into this gown, but I find the proportions odd.  The top is so unsubstantial and the bottom is so very heavy.  The skirt should be a bit longer, as it does not reach the floor and sort of hovers above it.  I also think that chiffon or tulle would be a better fabric choice for the gathered ruffles.  I am not crazy about the blue and white color scheme either.
